What is the best way to motivate students?

I have been doing my research on the best way to motivate my students. They are easily distracted and nonchalant towards learning. I have also noticed that the best lessons, books, and materials in the world won’t get them excited about learning and willing to work hard if they’re not motivated. Motivation is also a key factor in the success of students at all stages of their education. I went to the head teacher at my school and he told me he is also finding it difficult to motivate the students under his tutelage. I want to ask how can I keep my students motivated.

As silly as it may seem, a good way to motivate students is basically by bribing them. You can do small competitions in the classroom between the students and offer small toys or pieces of candy to the people with the best test scores or the kids who get the right answers in class. Also, you can do a competition between the classrooms for a larger prize, like pizza for lunch for the classroom with the best grades overall for one term. It can even just be something like having everyone be quiet and reading for a certain amount of time then they can go to recess early. Motivate them by offering them something that they can get to do or get to keep if they participate.
